Step 3. Discussion with your school before starting medication

We recommend you talk to your school before starting medication for a number of reasons:

  • To provide data as part of the trial process
  • To remain involved in providing ongoing support for your child
  • To have clarity about who knows about the medication, and how to make sure your child is not humiliated or stigmatised.
  • To continue to work with you

We recommend you DOWNLOAD this suggested list of matters to discuss with your school, and organise a meeting with the key people involved to address these issues  (e.g. class teacher, school principal, learning support teacher).

If you carry it inside your folder, you can then take notes about what the school says. Having a written agenda for your conversation, and keeping notes shows them that you are serious.
